Week 4 of the 2021 LEC Summer Split will have a great match between current league leader Misfits Gaming and G2 Esports.

It will be two very different teams that face off when it comes to momentum, as Misfits is currently on an impressive hot streak in the LEC. With a 6-1 record through three weeks, Misfits will potentially be entering this match at the top of the standings while G2 is struggling to stay in the top 3. So far, the former LEC champion is sitting on a mediocre 4-3 record, after losing two games in a row to Fnatic and Vitality respectively.

G2 will enter this week after losing both matches last weekend, so the star-studded roster will likely be hungry to rebound. The 4-3 record of G2 speaks to how the team has been inconsistent this split and struggled to get a good grasp on the meta. If G2 can clean up some of its sloppiness in the upcoming week, there’s still a lot of skill on the G2 roster which could let them shut down Misfits.

So far, the problems for G2 have often been the mid game where the team tends to take unnecessary fights. Misfits has been a great team in the early game so far this split, so G2 will have to contain themselves and choose fights carefully. This will require jungler Marcin “Jankos” Jankowski to stay focused during the first 10 minutes, as Misfits jungler Iván “Razork” Díaz has been scary so far.

If G2 can find comfort in the champion select and control the early to mid game, then G2 will likely be able to cruise to a victory as expected. If G2 doesn’t manage to do that, then Misfits will continue riding its momentum and take over in the early game. Even though Misfits isn’t usually known as an aggressive team, several of its wins this split have come off big leads early on.

This means that G2 can’t underestimate Misfits in any way or abuse them early on as it can with other teams. Misfits will enter Summoner’s Rift as the first-place team in the league and will likely go for G2’s throat right at the start. The key matchup will be in the jungle, with a lot of importance surrounding the two mid laners as well.

G2 Esports are favorites against Misfits despite LEC standings

Even though Misfits currently has the best record in the LEC, it’s G2 who will enter this match as favorites according to the bookmakers. It’s a rare sight to see G2 billed as an underdog in the LEC and this time won’t be an exception. Despite going winless last week, G2 can bounce back against any team in the league. If G2 finds its groove, then even Misfits will struggle. With all that said, there’s definitely a reason to believe in Misfits as the winner here purely based on recent momentum for the two teams.

A win for G2 gives an odds of 1.65 while Misfits gives odds of 2.10 if it manages to win. There’s possibly strong value with Misfits, as the team could be positioned for a potential upset

The match between Misfits Gaming and G2 Esports kicks off on Saturday, July 3.
