Fortnite’s stable of special skins is expanding rapidly and in a surprising direction.

Epic Games has long done amazing work, but it’s expanding its stable further by adding both video game icons and pop culture personalities. During The Game Awards 2020, Epic announced two surprising new additions to Fortnite and one not-so-surprising one.

Following rumors and leaked screenshots, Master Chief was revealed as the next addition to Fortnite. The Spartan skin comes with a disembodied Elite skull as back bling, as well as a Gravity Hammer for a harvesting tool. The news was spoiled last week alongside the reveal of God of War’s Kratos, but came with the surprise announcement that the hero was available now.

In addition to the Master Chief skin, it was also confirmed that Fortnite will host an event themed around Rooster Teeth’s classic Red vs. Blue web series. This was confirmed with a short video featuring characters Sarge and Grif, with an assist from popular streamer and former pro Halo player Tyler “Ninja” Blevins.

The event will feature a remake of multiplayer map Blood Gulch from Halo: Combat Evolved. Halo vehicles including the Pelican and Warthog will also be making an appearance. Finally, players who purchase the skin in Fortnite on an Xbox Series X or S will receive an exclusive black alternate skin for Master Chief.

The Walking Dead enters Fortnite

Epic Games’ licensing department has been flexing its muscles by securing the rights to some wildly popular characters. That was on full display tonight during the Game Awards 2020 as it was announced that The Walking Dead’s Daryl and Michonne will be added to Fortnite as skins.

Both skins bear a clear resemblance to their real-life actors, Norman Reedus and Danai Gurira. It’s unclear what other accessories will come with the skins, but fans won’t have to wait long to find out. The Daryl and Michonne skins will become available in Fortnite on December 16.

What is the rarest Fortnite skin?

No definite numbers are available on what Fortnite skins, but the Galaxy skin is likely the rarest. It was only available for a limited time to users who signed onto Fortnite on a Samsung Galaxy Note 9 and Galaxy Tablet S4 mobile device. That said, the black Master Chief skin in Fortnite could wind up being a highly sought-after skin due to the scarcity of next-gen Xbox consoles.
