Dota 2’s pro scene has grinded to a complete halt over recent weeks thanks to multiple coronavirus-related tournament cancellations. Dota 2’s development team is putting in overtime, however.
Dota 2 update 7.25b has arrived, bringing just six changes to the game. But those six changes are not small.
The first is a further reduction of the XP bounty from kill streaks. Valve significantly increased the gold and XP value of kill streaks in the initial 7.25 update, but evidently felt things went a step too far. They rolled back those updates a bit with a new calculation for the XP bounty, that lessens its overall value.
Three items were also changed.
Ring of Tarrasque’s price was increased by 50 gold. While this isn’t an especially big deal for heroes that look for the item to build into a Heart of Tarrasque, those who look towards the more affordable Holy Locket will find this to be more significant.
Trusty Shovel also received a small nerf. One of the items Trusty Shovel was capable of unearthing was a bundle of two TP scrolls. Dota 2 update 7.25b reduces that to just one TP scroll, leaving all other items as-is.
Finally Necronomicon’s mana cost was increased from 50 to 150. This is a huge hit for some of the heroes with limited mana pools that use the item, including Broodmother and Beastmaster. And the woes don’t end there for one common Necronomicon user.
Dota 2’s 7.25b update was a double whammy for Lycan. In addition to the backdoor nerf he took from the increased mana cost of Necronomicon, he took numerous other hits to his early and late game potency.
Lycan’s base damage was dropped by six, an enormous amount. His level 20 Shapeshift talent was reduced from an additional eight seconds to just six. Finally, his level 25 Summon Wolves skill was reduced from spawning three additional wolves to just two. All of this should combine to make Lycan significantly weaker.
The only other hero that was changed in Dota 2 update 7.25b is Weaver. His agility gain took a big hit, being reduced from 3.6 to 3.1. The movement speed boost of Shakuchi was also dropped by 20 points across the board.
