The groups for the 2020 League of Legends World Championship play-in stage and main event have been revealed.

Fans around the world are waiting for Worlds to kick off on September 25, but their appetites have been whetted with the announcement of some of the matches they can expect.

As always, the main event group stage will consist of four groups, with four teams in each. 12 teams are qualified directly to the main event, with the fourth team in each group to be determined through the play-in stage.

  • Unicorns of Love (LCL)
  • Rainbow7 (LLA)

The groups for the play-in stage seem to go in very different directions, while a few of the main event groups will be hard on the western teams.

Looking at the play-in stage, it’s expected that LGD Gaming will dominate its group. PSG Talon, V3 Esports, and Unicorns of Love will likely be vying for second place, as each has shown great form throughout the summer split.

Team Liquid and MAD Lions are expected to advance from group A against opponents who look substantially weaker. Papara SuperMassive might be able to make a surprising run if it gets the ball rolling early.

The main event’s group B with DAMWON Gaming and JD Gaming seems to be this year’s group of death, where Rogue and one unfortunate play-in team will have a hard time advancing.

FlyQuest will also have a hard time against two strong eastern opponents, with Top Esports as the favorite to take first place. G2 is the western team with the best opportunity to top its group. Suning and Machi Esports should be two opponents that the LEC champions can handle.

LoL Worlds 2020 begins on September 25 with the play-in stage.
