Rasmus “Caps” Winther is the best mid laner in the West, and that statement is not up for debate. He keeps proving that no matter the teammates around him and the uniform he wears, his team can trust him to be the best.

After a successful season with G2 Esports, Caps became the LEC spring MVP and is now ready to take to Summoner’s Rift at the Mid-Season Invitational.

New beginnings for G2

2019 was the start of a new era for the European League of Legends competitive scene. The EU LCS became the LEC and transitioned into a franchised league. Ten teams were chosen to take part in the new league, including traditional powerhouse G2 Esports.

G2 surprised fans when the organization announced Caps as part of its 2019 roster. Former mid laner Luka “Perkz” Perković would role swap to the bottom lane to make space for the team’s newest acquisition. Four months later, the experiment is a success and G2 is the best team in Europe.

Every single player on the roster stands out and shines on their own merits. G2 can play through any lane comfortably, and that flexibility makes it one of the scariest teams heading into MSI.

The many threats of G2 Esports

How do you prepare to face Caps? Targeting his champion pool may be a waste of time. Throughout the season, Caps played 15 different champions in the middle lane. He also shined in a more supportive role on Pyke when the team decided to play a funnel composition.

Caps can play anything in the mid lane and can transition to a different role if necessary. As a support, he is aggressive and effective. He is a multifaceted and dominant player that can adapt to his team’s particular needs.

This flexibility will come in handy if the team cannot play with support Mihael “Mikyx” Mehle. Mikyx has been dealing with a wrist injury that kept him from playing during week nine of the LEC. Mikyx said he was considering skipping the event in order to recover, but the team confirmed he is still training with the rest of the squad.

G2 vs The World

MSI will be a crucial tournament for the G2 team. They will have the opportunity to prove their worth against the best teams in the world.

G2 may have the upper hand against Team Liquid. The North American representative succeeds when they play standard compositions and sometimes struggles with unorthodox picks. If G2 manages to neutralize jungler Jake “Xmithie” Puchero and support Jo “CoreJJ” Yong-in, they could take over the matchup.

Against SK Telecom T1, G2 must go back to basics. The LCK champion plays a slower style, calm and collected. They can be aggressive, but the best strategies see them waiting for the enemy’s mistakes. In the LCK semifinals against Kingzone DragonX, SKT played mind games and let Kingzone throw the series. If G2 go for risky plays, SKT will punish them.

Invictus Gaming is the final boss for G2. They are the current world champions and a team made up of some of the best players in the world. At the 2018 World Championship, Song “Rookie” Eui-jin heavily outplayed Caps.

This is Caps’ chance to redeem himself and show Rookie that he has what it takes to claim the throne as the world’s best mid laner.
