Leblanc is set to be the next League of Legends champion to receive a VGU and some key details about this overhaul are already swirling.
Riot Games struck gold with Arcane, with the series’ popularity growing far beyond League of Legends’ core fandom. It’s so big that the company has been trying to bring the game more in line with the action, characters, and settings that appear in the show. This has already been seen with the Viktor VGU which has overhauled the Machine Herald into, effectively, a completely different character.
Leblanc might wind up going under the same knife. Here’s what regular League of Legends data miners have discovered.
Data mines of League of Legends’ test client uncovered data strings confirming that Leblanc was set to receive the VGU treatment.
The data mine that uncovered the Viktor VGU also revealed details on Mel Medarda becoming a playable champion in League of Legends, and that stated that an unspecified Noxian champion would receive a VGU. Another data mine weeks later uncovered lines of code that make reference to “leblanc_rework_base.”
This effectively confirms that a Leblanc VGU is coming.
Details regarding her new look and backstory are uncertain. VGUs can range from a straightforward graphical facelift to a complete reinvention of the character and their lore. Leblanc’s appearance has always been largely incongruent with her backstory. Her lore is that LeBlanc is an enigmatic being who has secretly dictated the course of her nation’s history since its founding. In reality, she’s a straightforward “sexy witch” character.
The lore of the character gives Riot Games plenty to work with, and it could be taken in a few different directions. She could become a more militaristic figure, reflecting the country she has secretly led for centuries. She could also be made more “eldritch horror,” which would reflect the notion of her being an effectively unknowable figure.
Leblanc mains likely got an early taste of her VGU during Arcane, where she makes a brief appearance as a shadowy figure. As seen with Viktor, fans likely shouldn’t expect a one-to-one recreation of the Arcane character in League of Legends. Still, the character will likely be more in-line with this thematically.
Either way, players ought not expect too many gameplay changes for her. While her abilities might receive a reskin, the Viktor VGU ultimately gave him only minor gameplay tweaks.
The Leblanc VGU will arrive in League of Legends at some point between January 2025 and April 2025.
The VGU will come out at some point during the LoL’s 2025 Season One. Starting in 2025, League of Legends’ content will be broken up into seasons that are divided up across the year. There will be three seasons across 2025, each of which will be divided into two acts.
While there’s no exact date, this means fans can expect her in the first few months of 2025.
