Today it was announced that KRÜ Valorant player Santiago “DaveeyS” Galvis Ruiz has tragically passed away at 23 years old.
The player was integral to KRÜ’s Valorant roster this season and had competed under the organization since October 2022.
DaveeyS passed on Sunday, just one day after his 23rd birthday.
The cause of death was decompensation, according to the organization, which is the failure of a major organ.
“There is no way to smooth this over. It took us all by surprise,” KRÜ said in a statement. “DaveeyS, Santi, was a spectacular player and a first-class teammate. With his trademark hard-working humility, he was proud to be able to inspire and represent his country and region at the top of the global Valorant. It was his dream, and he saw it come true.”
“All of us at KRÜ accompany their family and friends in this difficult moment, and we ask the entire community to support them with their strength and love,” the organization said.
His funeral is set to take place tomorrow in Bogotá, Colombia.
There was an outpouring of support for DaveeyS’ family and the organization following the announcement of his passing.
Several organizations, such as KOI, Furia, Heroic, Talon Esports, LOUD, Evil Geniuses, Team Vitality, Cloud9, M80, Natus Vincere, Paper Rex, and more, expressed their sympathies on social media.
Many Valorant players also expressed their love and support following the news.
DaveeyS, alongside the rest of his team on KRÜ, had an impressive run at the most recent last-chance qualifier, which enabled the team to secure a spot at Champions. KRÜ managed to take down the likes of Cloud9 and Leviatan to win the tournament.
At Champions, KRÜ was defeated by Paper Rex in the opening matchup and was later eliminated by European team Giants Gaming.
