Is Rocket League cross platform? Here's how to enable cross play

Rocket League has a widespread esports ecosystem, but it’s also a fun time-killer for casual gamers. Fortunately, Psyonix allows all players to team up through cross platform.

Rocket League appeals to a large audience of gamers. So whether you’re aiming to compete or want to take a breather from cut-throat shooters, Rocket League is your game. But don’t let Rocket League’s vivid colors and toy-like cars fool you. While it looks visually playful, car handling and tricks like aerial will explain why the game’s learning curve is so steep.

Still, players can’t get enough of it. Console, PC, and switch users are all fully invested in Rocket League, and thanks to cross play, there’s never a dull moment. The game has a large player base online 24/7.

Cross play is often an issue in FPS games since aiming and reaction time depend heavily on your device. But that’s not the case in vehicular games. Sure, console players may find it a tad easier to handle their bullet cars, but the difference is negligible. For this reason, the game developer has enabled cross play across all devices.

Is Rocket League cross platform on Switch?

Rocket League allows players on all devices to queue up, including Switch users. So, if you’re looking to team up with a friend on PC, you ought to enable cross play. Rocket League lets players on Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo consoles play together. For PC players, cross platform Play is available through the Steam or Epic Games store.

How to enable cross play in Rocket League

You must first enable the cross play to play with friends on other platforms. Next, go to the settings menu and look for the gameplay tag. Here you’ll find a cross play checkbox. Make sure it’s ticked.

Once it’s enabled, click on Play on the main menu and select custom games. Here, you’ll be given three game options. Between Exhibition”, “Season,” and “Private Match,” pick Private Match. Next, you’ll get an option to either create a join or create a private lobby or a local one. Pick either of the first two options. Create if you are inviting fans, or join if a private match has already been created. Once a private lobby is created, friends should be able to join it.

Voila! That’s all you need to do to play your friends on Rocket League Switch, PC, or console.

However, it’s worth noting that not all features will be accessible on different platforms. One of the features is voice chat. Players on the Rocket League cross platform can use Quick Chat instead.

How to add friends cross platform on Rocket League

Enabling cross play is simple, but lobbying with players from other platforms may take some work. Once your cross play is on, make sure you’ve added your friends. Here’s how to do it:

Click on the square icon in the bottom-right corner to open a friend list if you’re on PC. The console player should press the right trigger button for the same purpose
Select “add Epic friend” at the bottom of the friends list and enter your friend’s Epic Games ID
