Is Darkrai ready to haunt Pokémon UNITE? Release date revealed

Exciting news for Pokémon UNITE players: Darkrai is set to join the game’s roster soon. The battles are going to turn spookier than Ghosts themselves. Here’s all you need to know about it.

Pokémon UNITE is the first strategic team battle game by The Pokémon Company. In this MOBA-style game, teams of five battle to score points on opponents’ goals. Released in July, 2021, the game is available on Nintendo Switch and mobile phones. With the massive success of over 80 millions downloads, it has become a small fan-favorite by trainers and esports players alike. Better yet, the mysterious entity Darkrai is set to join Pokémon UNITE roster soon!

The Pokémon World Championships in August revealed Darkrai as an upcoming playable character. Initially without a release date, the Pokémon company just announced its arrival on October 17, 2024. The Dark-type Mythical Pokémon brings a spooky addition to the game just in time for Halloween. While a Ghost-type might seem more fitting, Darkrai’s eerie design and shadowy abilities make it a great match.

What to expect from Darkrai in Pokémon UNITE?

Darkrai will join the Speedster class, focusing on fast, hit-and-run tactics. The latest trailer shows the Pokémon using shadow-based moves to launch surprise attacks, suggesting it will be perfect for players who prefer quick, evasive characters. The full extent of Darkrai’s abilities remains to be seen, but its speed and stealth could make it a standout choice for those who enjoy guerrilla-style play in Pokémon UNITE.

With Darkrai’s unique mechanics, it’s likely to change the meta in Pokémon UNITE. This could provide a new challenge for professional players and newcomers alike. Whether it becomes a popular pick will depend on how well it competes. The existing roster of Speedster is already formidable due to the likes of Absol, Leafeon, Zoroark, etc., however, Darkrai’s release is sure to bring a fresh dynamic to the game.

The release of Darkrai isn’t the only excitement Pokémon UNITE has in store. Before Darkrai’s debut, Armarouge is set to join the game. This Fire/Psychic-type Pokémon will be joining the game on September 12, 2024. Following Darkrai, the beloved Psyduck is also expected to join the roster. This debut will be seen in November, but unlike other Pokémon, Psyduck will remain in its base form without evolving into Golduck.

With these new additions, Pokémon UNITE continues to expand their players Pokédex, offering more variety and strategy options, Players have plenty to look forward to in the upcoming months. One thing’s for sure, Darkrai’s debut will undoubtedly be a highlight the fans of fast shadow gameplay.
