ImAPet cites tarik, stanislaw, "hypocrisy" as reasons to leave EG

Evil Geniuses has released head coach Chet “ImAPet” Singh after almost seven months with the team. The famous North American organization returned to Counter-Strike: Global Offensive in September 2019 when they purchased NRG’s CSGO roster outright following its success at the StarLadder Berlin Major.

From the beginning of his tenure with NRG to his release on April 3, Singh spent nearly two years with the roster. During his time with EG, Singh was involved with Evil Geniuses’ brief but impressive push to a number one world ranking. EG took home first place at ESL One New York 2019, StarSeries iLeague Season 8, and a third-place finish at the ECS Season 8 finals in the latter half of 2019.

Evil Geniuses fell off towards the end of that year. The team continued their run of poor form into 2020, starting off the year with a seventh-place finish at BLAST Premiere’s inaugural spring season and a ninth-place finish at IEM Katowice 2020.

ImAPet’s apparent struggles working with tarik, stanislaw

According to a Twitlonger posted by Singh after news of his release, the former head coach placed the blame for EG’s struggles on his relationship with EG players Tarik “tarik” Celek and Peter “stanislaw” Jarguz, describing it as “absolutely horrendous.”

There was a lot of hypocrisy on the team on certain cultural beliefs and views on the game…  I had my changes I wanted to do, and ultimately they didn’t happen. And here we are now,” Singh said.

Singh declined to give any more information about the situation during his Twitch stream, saying that if tarik and stansislaw responded, then he would as well.

Singh’s departure from Evil Geniuses puts a highly-motivated and experienced Counter-Strike: Global Offensive coach on the open market. One potential landing spot is FunPlus Phoenix, who, after its purchase of the Heroic’s roster fell through, picked up the ex-Riot Squad roster ahead of Flashpoint’s second stage. As of now, the organization is without a coach.

FPX has potential, and the organization seems committed to fielding a Counter-Strike team despite its experience with Heroic during its attempted purchase of the Danish roster. After FunPlus Phoenix announced its signing of the Heroic roster, Heroic proceeded to back out of the deal and announced that they planned to send Patrick “es3tag” Hansen to Astralis as the sixth man in its six-man roster. Astralis confirmed the signing of es3tag just a day later.

EG is currently clawing its way back up the world rankings after falling from the number one spot last November and bottoming out in eighth place as recently as March 23. They are currently ranked number seven in the world.

ImAPet’s release leaves Evil Geniuses without a coach ahead of their playoff matchup against North American powerhouse Team Liquid on April 10.
