how to whisper in Valorant

Chatting during a ranked game is pretty easy. But ever wondered how to whisper in Valorant to send a discreet message to a teammate? Here’s how.

Valorant is a team-based shooter game that requires heavy communication. Popping heads might get you into higher ranks, but retaining that ELO becomes a menace without interactive teammates. It’s pretty simple to chat with random teammates in ranked games, but Valorant’s “whisper” feature works differently.

What does whisper mean in Valorant?

Whispering in Valorant is a way of sending a private message to teammates or friends. Riot Games has added various modes of communication in Valorant, including team voice chat, party voice chat, team chat, public chat, and finally whisper.

How to whisper in Valorant

Public messages can be sent with just one click, but sending DMs (direct messages) can be a bit tricky. You only need to press a single key for the rest of the message options, but DMs require you to type out a friend’s name or go to the Valorant main menu. Here’s how to whisper in Valorant.

If you’re in the middle of the game and wish to send a direct message to a friend, press enter to open the chat box. Click on the chat box, press the shift key, and hold the tab key. A new pink tab would appear where you can type out the first letters of the recipient’s name. A bunch of options from your friend list would pop up. Pick a friend you’re trying to whisper with. Click on the account title and type a message. Press Enter to send.

If you’re on the main and want to send a private message, hover your mouse to the right side of the screen towards the friends list. Place your cursor on the name of a friend you want to chat with and left click on their name. Select “send message” from the options. A pink chat box with their account title will appear on the bottom left side of your screen. Click on it and start typing a message. Press enter to send.

How to mute teammates in Valorant

Communicating in Valorant is crucial to winning a game, but teammates who overcommunicate, micro-manage, and use abusive language can be a pain. You can mute these players by pressing Escape > lowering the soundbar/or pressing the audio icon.
