A Yellowstone prequel, 1883, is coming to a screen near you every Sunday. The show that was released on streaming is coming to cable.
1883 will not have a second season, but that doesn’t mean fans won’t get to enjoy the existing season again, this time on TV. The Western drama, which started its life in Paramount+, will be part of the Paramount Network’s Sunday schedule.
1883 follows the story of the Dutton family as they leave Tennessee after the Civil War. They join a wagon train that is traveling from Texas to Oregon. The family eventually settles in Montana, where they establish the Yellowstone Ranch.
The show stars Tim McGraw as James Dillard Dutton, Faith Hill as Margaret Dutton, and Isabel May as Elsa Dutton.
1883 is still available on Paramount+. Those who don’t have access to the streaming service can enjoy the show every Sunday on the Paramount Network.
The entire Yellowstone franchise, which includes the title series and sequels 1883 and 1923, is one of Paramount’s most successful properties.
Yellowstone has been going on for five seasons on Paramount Network, so it makes sense to release the prequels and keep the audiences entertained. Sundays are an important day for the networks as they compete to get the highest viewership.
So far, Max, formerly known as HBO, has been the Sunday champion with the release of shows like The Last of Us, House of the Dragon, and Succession. Max’s most recent Sunday release, The Idol, is not pulling good numbers, leaving the rest of the networks fighting for the audiences.
At the end of 2023, a sequel to Yellowstone is scheduled for release on the network. According to some reports, Matthew McConaughey will be taking the lead role on the new show.
