League of Legends is a surprisingly versatile game, and learning how to play it in 4K resolution takes just a few minutes.

League of Legends can run on a surprising variety of systems, from years-old MacBooks to top-of-the-line PCs. While the game can have its graphical fidelity and system demands brought down to meet low-spec systems, it can also be brought up to top-tier demands. Here’s how to play League of Legends in 4K, and what issues might come with it.

How to play League of Legends in 4K

League of Legends isn’t a game that requires a high-end PC, and that’s part of what makes it so popular. The fact that a person with an elite computer can queue up alongside their friend on a hand-me-down laptop is quite impressive. While doing this, both having passable performance from the title is a serious draw to many fans. At the same time, not everybody needs to turn on low-spec mode, turn off eye candy, and find every way to save demand on their PC when booting up League of Legends. If you’ve got a PC and monitor capable of doing it, here’s how to play League of Legends in 4K.

In order to play League of Legends in 4K, you’ll need to modify the in-game settings. This is best done through the Practice Tool rather than loading into a game. Once loaded into Summoner’s Rift, hit the Escape key to pull up the settings window. Make your way to the Video tab, where the Resolution option should be visible at the top of the page. From there, select the 4K resolution that best suits your monitor and click save. If you’ve got the hardware to play in 4K, you’ll also likely want to crank every graphics settings to its highest option as well as enable optional settings like Eye Candy and the like.

It doesn’t come without problems, however. Some fans have complained that the League of Legends cursor size doesn’t scale well enough with a 4k resolution. This can be somewhat fixed by upping the cursor size in the settings. However, fans discussing the option on Reddit expressed that it only did so much to fix the issue. One proposed going into the configuration files to manually up the size of the cursor, but that the option kept resetting to its default at the start of each game

Are there advantages to playing LoL in 4K?

If you’re playing on an Ultrawide monitor, there are tons of benefits to deciding to play League of Legends in 4K. Unlike some other games, playing League of Legends on a 4K Ultrawide monitor actually improves how much you’re shown onscreen. This is done by expanding the field of view of the typical angled MOBA camera. This can allow you to play champions with long-range abilities without having to move your camera to see targets at a distance. It can also let you observe fights or enemy movements happening nearby without having to look away from your character. It will take some getting used to, but playing on an Ultrawide monitor does seem to offer some distinct competitive advantages to League of Legends players
