Highly-requested Spiderbot counter is coming back to XDefiant

XDefiant’s pesky Spiderbot is getting a temporary fix, and players are over the moon.

Since the release of XDefiant season 1, fans have complained about a litany of issues, with DedSec’s stun being the most common complaint. The tiny gadget that leaps at enemies’ faces and stuns them received a massive buff in Season 1, where it disabled the player’s ability to destroy the bot by shooting at it.

The developer later explained that the ability wasn’t supposed to be shot at, but due to mechanical issues, they didn’t want to roll a fix yet. However, the accidental update in the Season 1 patch removed the player’s ability to counter the pesky spider.

Taking to X, the developer has confirmed that they’ll re-roll the same old counter until a new fix has been devised in its place.

“For the future, we are going to change the way Spiderbot works so that there’s an easier and cleaner way to get them off your own face. Until then, the bug where you can shoot them off your own face will remain,” XDefiant’s executive producer Mark Rubin said.

How to counter Spiderbot in XDefiant?

XDefiant spiderbot

In the next patch for season 1, players will be able to destroy the bot once again after it has leaped off the ground. This is currently not possible due to an accidental fix shipped in season 1.

The recent nerfs boosted the cooldown from 25 to 40 seconds and fine-tuned the Spiderbot’s targeting so that multiple bots won’t double up on the same target. These changes, paired with the upcoming counter, will make this ability less daunting.

However, players are advised not to get used to the mechanic as it’s merely a temporary fix. The developer wanted the Spiderbot only to be destroyed by a melee, a fix that’s currently under development. Once there’s a better counter, players won’t be able to shoot Spiderbot off their faces.
