Yesterday, Spanish organization Heretics announced the revamped Valorant roster, which consists of some new and returning faces, with former Fortnite player Benjy “BenjyFishy” David Fish headlining the roster.
The team will feature former S2G Esports player Enes “RieNs” Ecirli, Dominykas “MiniBoo” Lukaševičius, Mert “Wo0t” Alkan, BenjyFishy, and Ričardas “Boo” Lukaševičius, Heretics announced yesterday.
The roster changes coincided with the formal retirement of Oscar “Mixwell” Cañellas, who announced he’s stepping down from professional Valorant on social media a few days ago. He mentioned in his post that he’s “starting a new life” and uploaded a YouTube video explaining his decision.
Heretics have made several changes to the roster that finished in eighth place last season.
During the VCT EMEA league, Heretics finished with a 2-7 record, which made the team ineligible to compete in the playoff stage of the tournament. At the last chance qualifier for Champions, Heretics was defeated by rivals KOI to be eliminated from the event.
Safe to say that the Heretics had a poor season last year, with several defeats. The massive overhaul of the roster was likely a guarantee, given the results.
Several of the players that Heretics signed to the Valorant roster for next year do not possess tier-one experience but have shined in the lower divisions. Wo0t, for example, is considered one of the best up-and-coming prospects in the EMEA region.
European star Ardis Svarenieks praised him in December last year on social media and even predicted he would end up on a top team such as Fnatic, Natus Vincere, or Team Liquid in the future.
Heretics will compete next year in the VCT 2024 season and will hope to compete at international tournaments. The new season is set to begin in a few months.
