Here’s where to find & catch Shaymin in Pokemon Legends: Arceus

The mythical Shaymin is available for players to catch in Pokemon Legends: Arceus, and it’s not particularly hard to do if you know where to look and how to catch it.

Shaymin is up for grabs for the first time in years. Players haven’t been able to get the legendary since 2018 when the Pokemon was available in Pokemon Center retail locations in Japan. They haven’t been available to western markets since 2016 when they could be obtained as a mystery gift in Pokemon X, Y, Omega Ruby, and Alpha Sapphire.

For players who exploited early bugs in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, Shaymin was one of a few mythical Pokemon available in the gen-four remakes. In Pokemon Legends: Arceus, that changes with a special post-game request. Here’s how to catch Shaymin in Pokemon Legends: Arceus.

Catch Shaymin through Pokemon Legends: Arceus’ A Token of Gratitude request

Players can catch Shaymin through the A Token of Gratitude request, which becomes available only to players who have save data for Pokemon Sword or Shield.

The mission will appear as a request on the blackboard in Professor Laventon’s lab in Galaxy Hall after completing the main story. From there it can be started in earnest by talking with the NPC named Medi, a Diamond Clan member standing around in the first camp of the Obsidian Fieldlands.

After speaking with them, the player will be told to head to a field of Gracideas at an unspecified location in the Obsidian Fieldlands to find Shaymin. This can be found in the northwestern corner of the map.

After heading to this area, a cutscene will start and Shaymin will appear as a wild spawn. It is skittish and will run away if battle is initiated, so it’s recommended to save and try to catch Shaymin with high-grade Poke Balls outside of battle.

Gracidea flower field location in Pokemon Legends: Arceus

Shaymin can be found in a bed of Gracidea flowers in the northwestern corner of the Obsidian Fieldlands.

Players that thoroughly explored the Obsidian Fieldlands likely noticed what appears to be a circle of dead and blackened earth in the Floaro Gardens. This strange landmark is actually the home of Shaymin. After starting the A Token of Gratitude request, this will transform to a field of Gracidea flowers when the player approaches and will then spawn Shaymin.
