Pokemon GO Dual Destiny Season has officially been revealed and players can look forward to a Unova-themed season that also includes new Gigantamax Pokemon.

The Pokemon GO Max Out season is set to come to a close. The controversial season drew the wrath of fans for a few reasons, including the lukewarm introduction of Dynamax and Gigantamax Pokemon to the game. That new mechanic isn’t going away, but Pokemon GO is moving its focus from Galar to Unova.

Niantic has revealed some of the highlights of the season. That said, fans can also intuit what’s coming.

Schedule for Pokemon GO Dual Destiny revealed

Pokemon GO’s Dual Destiny season will run from December 3, 2024 to March 4, 2025.

The Pokemon highlighted in the video and artwork for the new season are Hoopa, Reshiram, and Zekrom. Reshiram and Zekrom returning strongly suggests that the long-awaited Black and White forms of Kyurem will arrive during the season.

Pokemon Black 2 and White 2 first introduced the concept of fusing Pokemon. The story sees Kyurem combine with either Zekrom or Reshiram, depending on the version of the game. Pokemon GO introduced fusion earlier in 2024 with Necrozma, Solgaleo, and Lunala. The OGs of this mechanic with Black and White Kyurem.

Regardless of whether it becomes Black Kyurem by fusing with Zekrom or White Kyurem by joining Reshiram, it maintains regular Kyurem’s dragon-ice typing. There are two key differences between Black and White Kyurem.

First, Black Kyurem has stronger physical attacks while White Kyurem has stronger special attacks. The other is that they have different signature moves, with Black Kyurem having Fusion Bolt and Freeze Shock while White Kyurem has Fusion Flare and Ice Burn. Pokemon GO doesn’t have a defined physical-special damage split, but fans can look forward to the different Kyurems having unique coverage moves.

Alongside special legendary Pokemon, fans can also look forward to the arrival of Sinistea and Polteageist to Pokemon GO. The tea-themed Galarian Pokemon will be arriving during Pokemon GO’s Dual Destiny season.

Lapras, Machamp, and Kingler set to be Pokemon GO’s next Gigantamax Pokemon

Three of the original 151 Pokemon are set to have their Gigantamax forms appear in Pokemon GO.

Gigantamax Lapras was explicitly confirmed to be coming to Pokemon GO in the Dual Destiny season, but it’s not alone. Machop and Krabby were also shown off, with the duo being harbingers of the arrival of Gigantamax Machamp and Kingler.

Gigantamax Machamp and Kingler are two of the less-fondly remembered Pokemon of the generation, but they both add a fun twist to two classics. On the flipside, Lapras was a powerful Pokemon with a powerful G-Max move that established Aurora Veil. That mechanic will be lost in Pokemon GO, but it will still be a powerful ice-type option for Dynamax and Gigantamax raids.
