Here’s what’s coming after Arcane Season 2
Arcane technically wraps up with the release of Season 2 but that doesn’t mean there won’t be more League of Legends TV adaptations coming.
Arcane Season 2 has been a hit among fans of the first season. The show continued the tale of Piltover and Zaun, and brought the stories of Vi, Jinx, Caitlyn, Jayce, and Viktor to a heart-wrenching conclusion. With Act 3 concluded the show is definitively done.
That doesn’t mean that Fortiche Production and Riot Games are done with TV adaptations, however. The push to transform League of Legends into a cross-media IP is continuing. New TV series and films based on the game’s lore are incoming, and the two companies opened up a bit about what’s coming.
Three new League of Legends series or films are in the works
A question-and-answer session with Arcane co-creator Christian Linke revealed that three more series are in the works. It’s unknown if these new works will share the Arcane branding or if they will receive a new title of their own.
Regardless, the settings for these new series will confirmed. The Arcane spin-offs will focus in on three regions from League of Legends’ lore; Noxus, Demacia, and Ionia.
Noxus will be familiar to any fan of Arcane. The empire is the homeland of Ambessa and Mel, and its militaristic nature was a major component in Arcane Season 2’s story. It’s possible that a direct sequel to Arcane could be set in Noxus, given the events of the finale. If that’s not the case, Noxus still has a long list of champions from the region that weren’t featured in Arcane.
The aggressive military conquests of Noxus is a key component in the lore of both Ionia and Demacia. Both have also been featured in other League of Legends adaptations, most notably in Riot Games’ partnership with Marvel Comics.
Ionia is heavily inspired by Japanese media and mythology. It’s a territory full of ninjas, samurais, mystical creatures, and the occasional serial killer. Several of League of Legends’ most popular champions are attached to the region including Akali, Ahri, and Yasuo.
Demacia looks the part of a standard, video game-y, high-fantasy realm cut from the same cloth as the Alliance from Warcraft. Narratively, the region is largely defined by its rejection of magic, mysticism, and monsters with its champions being defined by this.
No details on what’s coming after Arcane Season 2 have been revealed. That hasn’t stopped fans from speculating, though. Will the next adaptation be a Van Helsing-style monster hunt starring Vayne? An anime-inspired ninja tale with Akali? Or something else entirely? Fans will have to wait and find out.
