key evolution items, sections of the map, and much more. One of the biggest parts of that “much more” is the Super Rod, a key item that all Pokemon fans are familiar with.
There’s a debate to be had regarding whether the item should have been made available earlier to allow for more creativity in building teams. The good news is that those who defeat Cynthia and want more action after can acquire the item with little difficulty if you know what to do.
How to get the Super Rod in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl
The Super Rod can be acquired by talking to a fisherman in the Fight Area.
The fisherman ahead of Route 225 has the Super Rod.
The Fight Area is accessible after defeating Cynthia and becoming the Pokemon League Champion. Players need to obtain the National Dex in order to access the fisherman. If they have beaten Cynthia but have not obtained the National Dex, the fisherman will be blocked off by two other NPCs.
Once the player has the National Dex and access to the Fight Area, the good news is that there’s no trick to getting the item or any hassle involved. Simply talk with the fisherman, answer his question, and he will hand over a Super Rod.
How to get the Old Rod and Good Rod in Pokemon BDSP
Though the Super Rod is locked behind the post-game of Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, that isn’t the case for the Old Rod or Good Rod. Both are found relatively early in the game by talking to fishermen.
The Old Rod can be found in the western exit from Jubilife City. Speak with the fisherman near the police officer and he will hand over the Old Rod.
In the middle of a playthrough is Route 209. Amid a bunch of trainers is another fisherman standing on a dock with his line cast. Though he might look like just another trainer battle waiting to happen, he will hand over the Good Rod after you speak to him.
