Gaining the ability to ride Wyrdeer smashes down almost all exploration barriers in Pokemon Legends: Arceus. Here’s how to do it.
Pokemon Legends: Arceus attempts to give players a drip feed of content, with the rideable Pokemon being the primary means of regulating this. The trouble with that is Wyrdeer’s mobility is too much for developer Game Freak to control.
Players aren’t meant to be able to cross bodies of water until about halfway through the game, but Wyrdeer is capable of leaping across rivers and lakes. Mountains are meant to be impassable until late in the game but Wyrdeer can go full Skyrim and run up steep cliffs.
Players unlock the ability to ride Wyrdeer after meeting Adaman and Mai in the Obsidian Fieldlands.Â
Gaining the ability to ride Wyrdeer happens early in the story. After progressing past the first area of the Obsidian Fieldlands, players will meet Mai from the Diamond Clan and will be tasked with defeating an alpha Kricketune. From there, players need to introduce themselves to Lian. After this meeting, return to Mai and players will receive the Celestica Flute and ability to ride Wyrdeer.
This will mean that the Obsidian Fieldlands area is almost entirely open to the player. The mountain range to the southwest of the starting camp can be climbed using lots of dashing and jumps. Players can also use an exploit to build bridges to reach Ramanas Island in the south early on.
After gaining the services of the Pokemon through the game’s story, players can ride Wyrdeer by pressing the + button.
Summoning rideable Pokemon is done through the + button with players able to select the Pokemon they’d like using left and right on the control pad. This is particularly helpful after gaining the second ride Pokemon, Ursaluna.
Worth noting is that players cannot ride any other Wyrdeer. Even if the player evolves a Stantler themselves, there is no way to ride it. The same goes for all other ride Pokemon.
