Anyone who’s played Terraria has wondered at some point how to get the Necromantic Scroll. Not only does it give you more minions to play with, increasing your maximum number by 1, but it also reduces minion damage by 10%.

Players all over the world have sought after the necromantic scroll in Terraria, trading advice in forums and on social media. Here’s all you need to know about getting one in the game.

How to get the Necromantic Scroll in Terraria

To get the necromantic scroll in Terraria, you have to defeat Mourning Wood, a living tree mini-boss that emerges during the Pumpkin Moon event. Depending on the current wave between the game, there is a 5 to 20% chance that Mourning Wood will drop a necromantic scroll during any event.

Wave 4, for example, usually comes with around a 2% chance, while higher waves like 15 have more chances of getting the accessory. Of course, you’d have to trigger a Pumpkin moon event first.

How to trigger a Pumpkin Moon in Terraria

Getting a pumpkin moon event in Terraria requires you to summon it using the Pumpkin Moon Medallion any time between night and dawn. Three items are needed to create the medallion; 30 Pumpkins, 5 Ectoplasm, and 10 Hallowed Bars combined at a Mythril or Oricalcum Anvil.

Getting the pumpkins involves breaking the backgrounds that have the pumpkin symbol, and once you gather enough, you can proceed. You can create your own backgrounds using Dryad NPC or wait till October when they are released by the game. The ectoplasm, however, is a bit harder to come by. You’ll first have to defeat Plantera, after which you have to kill enemies within the dungeons. When those are killed, you’ll receive ectoplasm.

To get the Hallowed Bars, you need to kill one of the mechanical bosses, such as the Destroyer, the Twins, or Skeletron Prime.

As we’ve explained, getting a necromantic scroll is a bit convoluted in the world of Terraria. But with the benefits it offers and how it can improve your game, it seems to be very much worth it.
