The 2024 set of Pokemon TCG promo cards has arrived in McDonald’s locations in France, giving international fans a look at what’s to come.
On an annual basis, Pokemon has partnered with McDonald’s for a line of Happy Meal toys. Though extra trimmings are added each year, the centerpiece is always the lineup of cards. While the prices for these promos aren’t nearly as high as the collector’s pieces found in the early years of the collaboration, many McDonald’s customers have been left frustrated to find out that there are only children’s books available.
2024 is coming to a close, which left many fans wondering if the partnership might have ended. Thankfully, the 2024 lineup of Pokemon TCG cards have arrived at McDonald’s locations in France, letting fans of the game know what to expect.
In 2024, McDonald’s Happy Meals will feature a set of promo Pokemon cards celebrating the year of the dragon. The set includes a number of dragon-type legendary Pokemon, and a roundup of popular Pokemon of different types.
Here’s the full lineup of Pokemon that will be featured as Happy Meal promo cards in 2024:
Unlike the 2023 set which was predominantly used cards from the Pokemon TCG Scarlet and Violet base set, the 2024 lineup pulls from several different expansions, dating as far back as 2020’s Vivid Voltage and as far forward as November’s Surging Sparks.
The highlight of the set for competitors will be the Roaring Moon card, which comes with the speckled holo that has been seen on McDonald’s promo cards in recent years. Roaring Moon decks have been powerful across multiple expansions, despite some solid counters being added.
Alongside Roaring Moon are several other powerful Paldean Pokemon, including cover legendaries Koraidon and Miraidon. Past that are several “pseudo legendary” dragon-types in Hydreigon, Dragonite, and Dragapult. Rounding out the lineup of dragon Pokemon in the 2024 McDonald’s TCG set is the oft-forgotten Alolan Dragon, Drampa.
The chase card of the set is unclear, however. While attention will immediately turn to the Charizard in the set, the first launch of the set includes a non-holo version of the Charizard. Roaring Moon, Drampa, Pikachu, Koraidon, Miraidon, and Hydreigon will all have holo versions available in the set.
It is unknown and unlikely that the 2024 lineup of McDonald’s Pokemon TCG cards will be available during the calendar year in all regions. Per PokeBeach, the set first arrived in December 2024 in France. The set doesn’t historically launch at the same time globally and can be staggered out across several months. With McDonald’s running Christmas-themed Happy Meal toys in many regions, the cards won’t arrive until 2025 for many.
