Hans Sama rumored to be joining G2 Esports for the 2023 spring season
Marksman player Steven “Hans Sama” Liv is rumored to be headed to LEC titan G2 Esports for the 2023 spring season, according to rumors.
Hans Sama was part of North American organization Team Liquid’s attempt at building a superteam in 2022, an experiment that failed to materialize any domestic championships or international results. The Team Liquid superteam’s implosion seemed inevitable at the end of the year, and owner Steve Arhancet confirmed that the organization would look to new designs in 2023. Now it seems that Hans Sama is headed back to Europe to join one of the largest organizations on that side of the Atlantic.
Hans Sama rumored to be the latest G2 Esports pick up
As it became clear that Team Liquid would be rebuilding, Hans Sama’s place seemed particularly uncertain. A longtime top-tier European player, Hans Sama’s jump overseas was meant to be met with immediate success, which it wasn’t. With Team Liquid likely looking to cut its overhead costs with what had to be a hefty set of salaries for players like Gabriel “Bwipo” Rau, Soren “Bjergsen” Bjerg, and Jo “CoreJJ” Yong-in, Hans Sama seemed likely to return to the LEC.
According to Brieuc “LEC Wooloo” Seeger, a reliable esports journalist who focuses on LEC roster swaps and industry happenings, G2 Esports may be the new home of the Team Liquid marksman. Both teams are undergoing significant roster swaps, and G2’s bot laner Victor “Flakked” Tortosa had been announced to be released by the organization.
Hans Sama’s departure had been announced in September, but no reliable news about the AD carry’s new home had emerged until now. The Hans Sama to G2 move seems very likely, as it matches G2’s pattern of finding relatively established talent, as well as taking the marksman back to his home region on a top team. Seeger was also the first to report Hans Sama’s move to Team Liquid a year ago, so the source is likely correct.
