Godzilla Minus One to show Godzilla as a “terrifying force”
A new Godzilla movie is being teased with an epic countdown.
On Twitter, a countdown appeared that showed all of the Toho movies throughout the years, ending with a teaser for a new Godzilla movie from Toho. The movie is set to be released in Japan on November 3, 2023, the first Toho Godzilla film since Godzilla: The Planet Eater i n2018.
The countdown interestingly goes backward, starting with 2016’s Shin Godzilla and ending with the original Godzilla from 1954. As the countdown ticks down, fans get to hear a new roar that is sure to give listeners goosebumps.
What is the new Godzilla movie?
There are actually two new Godzilla movies coming out. The first is from Legendary’s MonsterVerse, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. But it looks like Toho is making a new Godzilla film as well.
So what do we know about Toho’s upcoming Godzilla movie? It’s called Minus One and is coming out on December 1, 2023. It’s written and directed by Takashi Yamazaki, according to a new movie poster.
The countdown implies that the film is most likely a prequel of some sort. But does it take place before the 1954 classic, or will it be the start of a new series altogether?
According to Koji Ueda, the president of Toho International, it will be set in a “post-war Japan” that must now face a new threat, Godzilla, “bringing the country into the ‘minus.'” Godzilla will be portrayed as a “terrifying and overwhelming force.”
Will the film arrive in America?
The new Toho film is coming to select theaters in the United States on December 1, 2023.
It’s coming to Japan earlier, however, on November 3, 2023. This is considered Godzilla Day, the anniversary of the original 1954 film.
