GODSENT impress in CSGO return at WePlay! Forge of Masters

GODSENT’s new CounterStrike: Global Offensive team is off to a good start. The European squad went 2-0 in the opening rounds of the WePlay! Forge of Masters Season 2 Finals and advanced to the event’s playoffs.

After ceasing operations in 2018 and reopening earlier this year, GODSENT returned to CSGO by signing NoChance. Veteran player Mikail “Maikelele” Billi led his team to victories over Team GamerLegion and forZe to advance out of the group stage.

GODSENT seized the opportunity to sign the roster after NoChance decided to not renew their contract with SMASH Esports. Maikelele cited SMASH’s business practices as the main reason the team didn’t re-sign with the organization in a post on Twitter.

“Me and the team signed a three-month trial contract together with SMASH and we decided not to prolong since there was a lot of things going on behind our back,” Maikelele said.

GODSENT starts 2-0 at WePlay! Forge of Masters Season 2 Finals

GODSENT’s first game back was a solid one as they toppled Team GamerLegion on Overpass 16-12. Jesse “zehN” Linjala posted a 1.14 rating on the map, holding GamerLegion in check across both halves.

GODSENT’s second match was a closer, 16-14 win against forZe on Dust 2. ZehN once again carried GODSENT across the finish line, posting a 99.3 ADR. No one else on GODSENT had an ADR higher than 70.2. Maikelele performed decently and even collected a highlight play on with a triple kill on Dust 2.

ZehN was the highest-rated player in the best-of-one stage of the tournament. His performance was a surprise to many who had expected GODSENT’s Miikka suNny Kemppi to carry the load for the team.

Overall, GODSENT’s new roster looked solid today for a group that has struggled to find consistency for months. The team finished 20th overall at the DreamHack Masters Malmo 2019 European Qualifier at the end of September. The team then placed first at the 2019 EPICENTER Open Qualifier before bombing out of the DreamHack Open Sevilla qualifiers in 25th place.

GODSENT still has long a long way to go in Forge of Masters

Any team can win one map. The real test for GODSENT comes with its upcoming best-of-three semifinal match. While GODSENT doesn’t have to win Forge of Masters to consider this event a success, defeating a formidable foe over three maps will go a long way towards restoring faith in an erratic roster.

Winstrike Team, Copenhagen Flames, forZe, and Team Heretics were sent home during the day. Both Winstrike and Copenhagen Flames lost 0-2 while forZe and the Heretics lost their respective elimination matches. Day one also saw Tricked Esports, GamerLegion and Gambit Youngsters join GODSENT in the semifinals.

GODSENT will face off against Gambit Youngsters in the playoffs. The second semifinal will see Tricked Esports take on GamerLegion. The winners will progress to the WePlay! Forge of Masters Season 2 grand finals.
