G2 Esports has formed a new academy team named G2 Arctic for the 2020 Spanish Superliga Orange, the organization announced on January 3.

The organization that holds the best European team and the 2019 World Championship runner up will now be nourishing young talent in the SLO, one of the biggest Spanish esports leagues. G2 Arctic will be fighting against nine other teams with a goal of obtaining a spot in the 2020 European Masters.

“Principally managed by Arctic Gaming in Spain, G2 Arctic will bring a cool and refreshing new touch to the Spanish region,” G2 shared in the announcement. “Backed by G2’s established brand and memes, we’ll ensure that fans of both organizations are entertained and thrilled with our success to come.”

The team was created in collaboration with Arctic Gaming, a Spanish esports organization, thus the name G2 Arctic. Arctic’s League of Legends division was created in 2017, and has competed on a second level of the Spanish competition. However, there currently aren’t any players signed to the team, so fans are eagerly expecting to hear who will play under the academy team in the 2020 season.

Mondelez International enters esports as G2 Arctic’s main sponsor

While both Arctic and G2 have a whole roster to set in place ahead of the new season, the team already has its main sponsor. Chips Ahoy!, Nabisco’s cookie brand, and a subsidiary of one of the biggest international food chain Mondelēz International which owns big brands such as Milka, Oreo, and Toblerone, is partnering up with the team.

The partnership between Chips Ahoy! and G2 Arctic is Mondelēz’s first venture into esports.

With G2 being such an achieving team, fans have high expectations for the newly formed academy team. G2 has been the European champion six times, and is one of the strongest contenders in the world. Most recently, the team won 2019 Mid-Season Invitational, the 2019 LEC Summer Split, and placed second on the Worlds 2019 stage.
