Fortnite 10.10 update brings map changes, glitched items

Fortnite’s 10.10 content update has gone live, introducing map changes and new items.

The patch was originally added last week, introducing a lot of map changes. This included the return of Retail Row, which replaced Mega Mall. Just six days later, the map is already changing again.

Fortnite weapon and item updates

Epic Games introduced players to the Junk Rift, a possible solution to the almighty B.R.U.T.E. that has angered pro and casual players alike. The throwable item breaks on contact with its target, spawning a large object in the sky that plummets to the ground.

According to the patch notes, the Junk Rift “damages players and destroys everything in its path.” It also creates a small shockwave upon impact, which further damages players and anything else within its radius.

A direct hit causes 200 damage and has a small knock back effect. The shockwave deals 100 damage. Both forms of damage immediately destroy vehicles and other destructable objects. The Epic rarity item drops in stacks of two, with a max stack size of four.

The update also brings with it a new concept: Glitched Consumables. Located at the explosion site, the consumables randomly switch between a variety of items from the past. This includes apples, which grant five health, and mushrooms, which grant five shield.

Shadow Stones were recently disabled “due to an issue,” according to the patch notes. But they once turned players “into a ghost” for a brief time, granting improved movement speed and the ability to dash through structures.

“They say you are what you consume, but these consumables don’t even know what they are. A Rift Beacon has exploded, creating forageable items that keep turning into other forageable items — they’re glitched!” Epic exclaimed.

As stated in the patch note’s item section, Glitched Consumables are a result of an explosion. They can only be found within a giant crater, which was created by the Rift Beacon at the Rec Center after a malfunction.

This is actually the third change to the map since the start of Season X. Paradise Palms seems a likely candidate for a future makeover. So far, players have witnessed trees sprouting on top of certain buildings and noticed more grass around the location’s perimeter.
