Fnatic shocks fans with Hello Kitty partnership, new countdown
Name a more iconic duo than Fnatic and Hello Kitty. We’lll wait.
The mainstay esports organization announced a partnership with Sanrio’s Hello Kitty in a
tweet. The reveal showed off some Hello Kitty wallpapers, where the famous white feline is sporting Fnatic gaming gear. While Fnatic urged players to collect them all, it was unclear what else the sponsorship entailed.
When you click on the link, Hello Kitty appears in headphones and a Fnatic jersey. Below her is a prompt to submit your email and a countdown, currently listed at just under 10 days.
When fans sign up for Fnatic’s email updates, Hello Kitty’s eyes turn to hearts and a screen pops up that says, “A random item is appearing.” You have the chance of winning five different wallpapers, ranging from common to epic, of which there is only a 1% chance of receiving.
“Here’s our gift to you while you wait for the drop! Share it with your friends and see if you can collect them all,” reads the announcement once you receive your wallpaper.
The cryptic website may not have revealed much about the collaboration yet, but fans are already excited for the surprising duo. Fnatic answered “uwu” to a few fans who expressed their excitement on Twitter. Other people shared their unlocked wallpapers, thanking Fnatic for the new art.
“This is oddly cute I didnt know I would like this idea as much as I am,” one fan tweeted.
Aside from the wallpapers, gamers will have to wait until November 15 to find out what else this unique partnership has in store. Until then, enjoy your wallpaper uwu
Esports teams with surprising collaborations
While Fnatic has definitely raised the bar for fun and shocking partnerships, they aren’t the only pop culture collaborations in the esports industry.
Team Liquid recently made waves when they announced a partnership with
Marvel. Their League of Legends team revealed some Captain America-inspired jerseys at the Midseason Invitational earlier this year.
One of the most random sponsorships of all came when the Houston Outlaws let fans know that their new partner was grocery chain
H-E-B. The Texas-based grocery store supplies the team with food and nourishment and, perhaps more importantly, solidifed the Outlaws as a community-driven team.
