PUBG Corp has announced that MET Events will host the final PUBG Classic tournament of 2019 in Bangkok.

The MET Asia Series: PUBG Classic will take place between July 26 and 28, with 16 teams from China, Korea, Southeast Asia, Japan, and the combined Chinese Taipei/Hong Kong/Macau region competing for a share of a $300,000 prize pool.

The regional restriction will give teams that are not eligible for the upcoming GLL Grand Slam: PUBG Classic a chance to compete at one of the three major PUBG Classic events. The GLL event was open to teams from Europe, North America, Oceania, and Latin America. The first PUBG Classic, hosted by FACEIT in London earlier this year, was open to teams from around the world and had a larger $400,000 prize pool.

Jérôme Coupez, head of marketing at MET Events, called the event the “largest esports tournament in Thailand to date,” and spoke glowingly about the potential to showcase both regional talent in PUBG and the potential for Thailand to host noteworthy events.

“We’re looking to make this event unforgettable and offer the players and the fans the ultimate experience by paying tribute to the country which has one of the richest cultures in the world,” Coupez said.

PUBG Corporation’s director of esports Jake Sin agreed with Coupez’s optimism.

“By partnering with MET Events, who has the right operational experience and talent, we’re confident that local and global fans will be in for a fantastic show,” Sin said.

The PUBG Classic events are the major international tournaments that break up the main competitive season. They give teams a chance to compete for massive prize pools, but also to play against teams from other regions, a rare opportunity given the regional leagues that exist in the PUBG scene. The FACEIT event earlier this year was well received by fans and players, and set high expectations for the remaining PUBG Classic events.
