Evil Geniuses to start Huni and Goldenglue in LCS Summer Split
Evil Geniuses will be starting top laner Heo “Huni” Seung-hoon and former Golden Guardians mid laner Greyson “Goldenglue” Gilmer during week six of the 2020 LCS Summer split.
According to a report by ESPN, EG has signed a seven-day contract with Goldenglue and will be starting him alongside Huni next weekend in the LCS. In week six, Evil Geniuses is facing Team Liquid and Cloud9, their toughest opponents this season. Goldenglue will be reuniting with former Cloud9 teammates jungler Dennis “Svenskeren” Johnsen and support Tristan “Zeyzal” Stidam. The veteran mid laner will be getting a rough welcome in his return to the top North American competition.
EG is currently tied in fourth place with Counter Logic Gaming and FlyQuest. The team is in desperate need of a win, as it can still challenge Team SoloMid for third and even aim to take second place from Liquid with a good run of form.
Evil Geniuses takes a risk with Huni and Goldenglue in LCS
Signing Huni was the biggest roster move for EG in the offseason. At the time, the team didn’t have a clear idea of how it would make it work considering its import slots. Logic indicated that EG would replace bottom laner Bae “Bang” Jun-sik. For five weeks, the team started its regular LCS roster and now is ready for a change.
Starting Huni might be an upgrade from Colin “Kumo” Zhao, who’s been struggling to keep up with the more experienced top laners in the region. The big question mark is Goldenglue and if will he manage to outperform starting mid laner Daniele “Jiizuke” di Mauro. Jiizuke is the driving force behind Evil Geniuses, a hyper carry that the team can rely on. Week after week, Jiizuke has delivered good performances, but apparently that wasn’t enough for the organization. His stepping back makes room for Huni to step up as an import in the top lane.
During his time with Golden Guardians, Goldenglue was decent, but in a league like the LCS, being just decent is not good enough. The organization
decided to upgrade and brought in
Tanner “Damonte” Damonte.
Evil Geniuses may feel that it’s in a situation of low risk and high reward in its matches against Liquid and C9. Goldenglue and Huni are an untested duo that will be expected to achieve a very difficult task over the weekend. Two victories in these games could completely change the look for EG for the rest of the split.
