This is the year that Invincible returns to Amazon Prime Video, and fans of the graphic superhero show are anxiously awaiting any new information. Unfortunately, not much is known about Invincible Season 2, but we are starting to get a better idea of the release date, cast, and plot.

When is Invincible Season 2 coming out?

Right now, all we know is that Invincible is returning to Amazon in late 2023. No official release date has been revealed just yet.

Invincible Season 2 and Season 3 were both greenlit back in April of 2021, and the team has been working on Season 2 for years. The teaser that just came out earlier this year shows the crew’s dedication to stylized superhero action and self-aware humor, like when Allen the Alien says that it’s been “ridiculous” how long it’s been since everyone has seen Invincible.

In the trailer, fans also got a bit of a behind-the-scenes look at what goes into making an animated television season, including storyboarding, drawing, writing, voice acting, and editing.

Invincible Season 2 cast

The full cast, plot, and other important elements are still a mystery, but there are some characters that fans are expecting will make a return. Here is the cast that is most likely making its return in Season 2:

  • Steven Yeun as Mark Grayson/Invincible
  • J.K. Simmons as Nolan Grayson/Omni-Man
  • Sandra Oh as Debbie Grayson
  • Zazie Beetz as Amber Bennett
  • Gillian Jacobs as Samantha Eve Wilkins/Atom Eve
  • Andrew Rannells as William Clockwell
  • Walton Goggins as Cecil Stedman
  • Jason Mantzoukas as Rex Sloan/Rex Splode
  • Ross Marquand as Rudy Conners, Kursk and Bi-Plane
  • Mark Hamill as Art Rosenbaum
  • Khary Payton as Markus Grimshaw/Black Samson
  • Malese Jow as Kate Cha/Dupli-Kate
  • Grey Griffin as Shrinking Rae and Amanda (Monster Girl’s human form)
  • Kevin Michael Richardson as Monster Girl/the Mauler Twins
  • Seth Rogen as Allen the Alien
  • Mahershala Ali as Titan

Invincible writer Robert Kirkman has also said in the past that he wants more cast from The Walking Dead to appear in Invincible. Yeun, Marquand, Laurie Cohan, Lennie James, Sonequa Martin-Green, and Michael Cudlitz have provided voices for Invincible, but Kirkman wants even more cast to make their debut. So we could be expecting some familiar voices, including Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

There are also some characters in Season 1 that could make an appearance, like Kill Cannon and Machine Head, but it’s currently unknown. Marquand also took over for Zachary Quinto, who voiced Robot before his consciousness was transferred into a new clone body, so Quinto is another familiar voice who could join the Invincible cast.

Invincible Season 2 plot

In Season 1’s finale, Omni-Man’s plan to conquer Earth was destroyed when he couldn’t kill his son Mark or enslave humanity for the Viltrumite Empire. This caused him to fly off into space, but nobody knows where. It’s possible that Season 2 could pick up where that storyline left off, with Mark protecting Earth and supporting the Coalition of Planets on its mission to stop the Viltrumite Empire from attempting its universe-wide control.

If that’s the case, Mark is aware that a fleet is on its way since he was informed by Allen. In the comics, Allen plays a bigger role during this storyline. Now, fans are hoping to see their bromance grow in Season 2.

And where is Omni-Man? In the comics, he invades another planet. More importantly, the comics also explore Omni-Man’s relationship with his son Mark. This could be another huge storyline for Season 2.

The Sequids may get more screen time in Season 2 as well. An alien has infiltrated Earth after trading places with a human astronaut. This astronaut was left behind on Mars to be controlled by the Sequids. If the parasites make their way to Earth, this could create a huge catastrophe.

There might be some new storylines as well that were never explored in the graphic novel. According to Kirkman, he wants to include some brand new stories, like Damien Darkblood. There’s no proof that he will return for Season 2, but it was something Kirkman mentioned while speaking on Season 2’s possible plot lines.

No matter what happens in Invincible 2, you can expect some “crazy stuff coming.” There will be intense storylines and villains awaiting fans once the show finally comes out.
