Everything known about upcoming AEW video game Fight Forever

AEW is set to enter the realm of wrestling video games with the rumored AEW: Fight Forever.

AEW is the second-biggest wrestling promotion in the western world, with a huge roster made up of top stars plucked from WWE, New Japan Pro Wrestling, and other prominent companies. It was only a matter of time before AEW made a big video game push and it’s likely coming soon.

The wrestling outfit partnered with enduring game studio Yuke’s. Yuke’s is predominantly known for its pro wrestling-themed games, with its debut in the genre coming in 1995 with New Japan Pro-Wrestling: Toukon Retsuden for the PlayStation 1. The Osaka-based company was also the studio behind WWE’s titles starting in 2000 with WWE SmackDown!

Yuke’s and WWE 2K publisher Take-Two Interactive had a messy divorce in 2019 ahead of WWE 2K20’s release. While Take-Two Interactive has rebounded well with Visual Interactive’s WWE 2K22, Yuke’s has mostly been quiet.

The only word has been occasional gameplay footage for an upcoming, yet-to-be-titled AEW title. Here’s what’s confirmed about the AEW: Fight Forever video game so far.

What is AEW: Fight Forever?

AEW: Fight Forever is a video game based on the real-life wrestling promotion AEW. It is developed by former WWE 2K developer Yuke’s, but features a new engine.

Details regarding the game have been almost non-existent to this point. A teaser trailer featuring Kenny Omega, Chris Jericho, and Hikaru Shida was revealed in 2020. Several months later, trailers showing Darby Allin and Jungle Boy were revealed.

The gameplay and graphical style seem more arcade-like than the recent WWE 2K wrestling sims from Yuke’s. There’s also the notable inclusion of intergender wrestling, with Hikaru Shida wrestling opposite Omega in the original trailer.

What does AEW stand for?

AEW stands for All Elite Wrestling.

The name stems from AEW wrestlers Kenny Omega, Nick Jackson, and Matt Jackson. The trio is the core of a stable known as The Elite and was originally a subgroup of the Bullet Club. They left New Japan Pro Wrestling in 2019 alongside Cody Rhodes, with the four initially serving as in-ring performers and executives within the company. Rhodes has since rejoined WWE.
