As expected, Elden Ring is 2022’s Game of the Year (GOTY), but FromSoftware’s ARPG has swept multiple awards.

The eventful Game Awards 2022 has finally wrapped, revealing trailers of numerous highly-anticipated titles. Fans got a look at Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, Diablo 4, and Jedi: Survivor trailers at the prestigious grand stage of Game Awards. A lot happened at the ceremony, including a bitter moment where a stranger crashed GOTY’s speech, but Elden Ring winning four awards remains the event’s highlight.

When Game Awards lifted the curtain on the nomination for GOTY, fans had banked on Elden Ring to win in a photo finish against God of War: Ragnarok. But, FromSoftware’s blockbuster action role-playing game dominated four of the six categories it was nominated in.

Elden Ring wins GOTY 2022 at Game Awards

The biggest category at Game Awards 2022 is easily GOTY, and when Elden Ring won that, the rest was a breeze. In GOTY, Elden Ring was nominated alongside God of War: Ragnarok, A Plague Tale: Requiem, Horizon Forbidden West, Stray, and Xenoblade Chronicles 3.

The game won the best direction, role-play, and art direction, along with the GOTY award. While receiving the award, game director Hidetaka Miyazaki thanked the dev team behind the game.

“We have faced so many difficulties while developing this game…so I’m really relieved. I haven’t made up my mind to create even more interesting games than this one. As for ‘Elden Ring,’ we still have more things we want to do, so getting this GOTY award really, really encourages us.”

After this, the game hit a winning streak of four, bagging three more awards for FromSoftware. It was truly a night for Elden Ring and God of War: Ragnarok, two hit titles that have become the most talked-about games of 2022.

Elden Ring was released in the first half of 2022, but it had everyone talking months prior to the release. The chart-topping release helped Elden Ring become the top game of the year. The ancient lore of God versus evil had players hooked throughout 2022.
