EDward Gaming continues Champions run with victory over Giants
The best Chinese team in Valorant continues its run at Champions following an impressive victory over European team Giants.
The star of the show was EDward Gaming player Zheng “ZmjjKK” Yongkang (Kang Kang) as he continued his impressive form at international tournaments. Kang Kang had fighting words for his opponents earlier in the tournament but later backtracked on his comments. EDward Gaming is now set to play in the playoff stage of Champions, which is set to begin on August 16.
EDward Gaming crush Giants in two maps
The Chinese team looked dominant today with impressive site takes and crucial clutch victories.
The first half of Split saw EDward Gaming take nine rounds in the first half. Giants fought back toward the conclusion of the first map, but the damage was done. The end of the first map couldn’t have gone worse for Giants, however. Kang Kang managed to secure a one-versus-two clutch to win the first map, which looked unwinnable.
After dodging a flash from heaven, Kang Kang took down both Emir “rhyme” Muminovic and Adolfo “Fit1nho” Gallego to defuse the Spike and win the first map.
Going into the second map, EDward Gaming continued its dominance with an 8-4 half, but Giants showed signs of life with a string of victories to earn seven round wins. The effort failed to amount to a victory, however, as EDward Gaming managed to take the second map over the line to win the match.
The final team to qualify for the playoff stage of Champions is set to be decided later today, with North American team NRG to rematch Chinese side Bilibili Gaming. Earlier in the tournament, Bilibili Gaming defeated NRG 2-0 but was taken down by Fnatic to fall to the lower bracket.
