Two of the most entertaining teams in the LCK are about to clash, but only one of them has something on the line. With the 2021 LCK Spring Split coming to an end, DRX will put in the last sprint to reach the top three in the standings before the playoffs hit. The team is already locked in a spot for playoffs, but reaching a higher seed could be crucial. For DWG KIA, not a lot is on the line as the world champions have already locked in first seed after a dominating split.
In the DWG KIA camp, the players can enter the match without any sort of pressure. With a current winning streak of 12 series, the team is locked in for first and has room to experiment with new strategies for the rest of the split. Even when taking the games less seriously, it won’t be easy to take down DWG KIA as it has been proven plenty of times.
There is also a chance that DWG KIA will give room for the young mid laner Kim “RangJun” Sang-joon, to get his LCK debut. Several teams have tried out rookies so far in this LCK split, so it would only make sense for DWG KIA to do the same when the stakes are low.
On the side of DRX, the story is very different. While the team is already locked into playoffs, there is hope for reaching as far as top 2 in the standings. DRX is currently one win behind both Gen.G and Hanwha Life, who are each currently sitting at a 10-5 record each. For DRX to catch up, a win against DWG KIA will be crucial with only four series left of the split. Gen.G and Hanwha Life won’t go easy on their opponents either, so DRX needs all the wins they can gather.
To actually beat DWG KIA, DRX needs to get both mid laner Song “SOLKA” Su-hyeong and bot laner Jeong “BAO” Hyeon-woo going. The two young carries have proven to be capable of popping off in games, especially with the help of jungler Hong “Pyosik” Chang-hyeon, who has been dominating Summoner’s Rift this year.
DWG KIA roster:
DWG KIA might already have secured the first seed in the regular split, but that likely won’t stop the reigning world champions. With a current winning streak of 12 best-of-three series, it’s unlikely that DRX will be able to best them. This is why the bookmakers have DWG KIA as big favorites, but anything can still happen when one team has much more to fight for than the other.
