Deadlock Guide: Server status and changing regions

Reading time: 3 min

Valve’s new MOBAxShooter, Deadlock, is capturing the gaming world’s attention with its thrilling and unique gameplay. Even though it is still in Alpha playtest phase, the player count reflects a worldwide player base. If you’re finding it challenging to connect or play due to server issue, this Deadlock guide will guide you through the server status, regional server times, and switch regions for a smoother experience.

Deadlock server status

Since Deadlock is currently in its playtest stage, server availability can fluctuate. The servers are generally online, but access might vary based on the time of day and region. If you’re experiencing trouble joining a match, it could be due to your region’s servers not being active at that moment.

The server status and timings are shown in-game on the bottom right, as depicted in the screenshot above. Make sure to check the server status frequently to align with the times when servers are open. This way, you can avoid frustration and enjoy seamless gameplay. As of now, Deadlock’s regional server times are as follows:

  • North America (ET)
    • Monday To Thursday: 5 PM to 6AM
    • Friday to Sunday: 1 PM to 6 AM
  • Oceania (AEST)
    • Monday To Thursday: 2 PM to 2 AM
    • Friday to Sunday: 10 AM to 2 AM
  • Europe (BST):
    • Monday to Thursday: 2 PM to 2 AM
    • Friday to Sunday: 10 AM to 2 AM
  • Asia (JST)
    • Monday to Thursday: 4 PM to 4 AM
    • Friday to Sunday: 12 PM to 4 AM
  • Souther America (BRT)
    • Monday to Thursday: 4 PM to 4 AM
    • Friday to Sunday: 12 PM to 4 AM

How to change server region

Since Deadlock playtest is available worldwide, you can enjoy playing with your friends across the oceans. Whether to join friends, or to find an open server during off-hours, the steps to change server region are as follows:

  1. Open the command input dialog: Press F7 to open the command input dialog
  2. Enter the region command: Enter the regional command corresponding to your desired region (listed below)
  3. Execute the command: Press Enter to apply the change

After this, the server region will show a change on the right side of your screen. Fortunately, you don’t need to restart Deadlock for the server region to change, and you can continue playing on different servers during the same launch. The command to change server region is “citadel_region_override,” as different values reflect different regions. The values for the command are as follows:

  • North America: citadel_region_override 0
  • Europe: citadel_region_override 1
  • Asia: citadel_region_override 2
  • South America: citadel_region_override 3
  • Ocenia: citadel_region_override 5
  • Automatic: citadel_region_override -1

Changing regions is usually straightforward, and shouldn’t disrupt your, or others’, gameplay. It goes without saying, playing on different regions will result in varying latency or server performance. While the servers may have performance problems, there won’t be any capacity issues. Valve, being a giant in the multiplayer space, is likely prepared to counter capacity with auto-scaling of on-demand server deployments.

With this Deadlock guide, you should have a clearer understand of the server dynamics and how to change your region. Happy gaming, and enjoy your Deadlock adventures!
