cvMax signs with Kingzone DragonX amid Griffin controversy
Griffin’s former League of Legends coach Kim “cvMax” Dae-ho has found a new spot in the scene with Kingzone DragonX. cvMax is the organization’s first League of Legends team member newly signed for the upcoming season.
Kingzone DragonX
announced on Twitter that cvMax is joining the team, saying he will be the one to guide the team to victory in 2020 and inviting their fans to support him on his new journey. cvMax’s run with Griffin had a poor finish to say the very least, as his work and results weren’t respected by Griffin’s manager.
Griffin announced that the organization would be parting ways with cvMax just before the League of Legends 2019 World Championship. This was followed by a number of accusations directed against Griffin, and
specifically at their former general manager Cho Kyu-Nam. Cho was called out as responsible for improper roster moves
and internal conflicts, which Griffin later resolved by firing him.
As Griffin is resolving its own problems, so is cvMax, as he takes on another team he might bring to the top. Kingzone DragonX’s roster for the 2020 season is, however, still a question mark.
Kingzone DragonX hopes cvMax can repeat Griffin’s LCK success
Kingzone DragonX is a Korean League team that competes in the League of Legends Championship Korea. The team finished the 2019 LCK Summer Split seventh, but then placed second at the regional finals where DAMWON Gaming barely took the Worlds’ qualification slot away from them with a 3-2 series score.
Contracts of Kingzone DragonX’s entire roster are expiring later this November, and the organization hasn’t yet announced any renewals. The 2019 LCK season didn’t go the best for the team, so it’s possible Kingzone DragonX will sign a completely new roster for the new season.
Having cvMax helping with the new roster, and coaching it from then on, might result in Kingzone DragonX becoming a top-tier Korean team again. With cvMax guiding the team, Griffin went undefeated through the Challengers Korea 2018, fought their way to the second place in the 2019 LCK regular season, and qualified for Worlds.
Fans now have high expectations for what Kingzone DragonX will achieve led by cvMax.
