Ukrainian Counter-Strike streamer Oni has passed away fighting a war, his family has confirmed.
According to social media posts by his friends and family, CSGO streamer Ostop “Oni” Onistrat has passed away. His death occurred while fighting in the war between Russia and Ukraine, an event that continues to greatly affect international esports. Oni was only 21 years old at the time of his passing.
The exact circumstances of his death are not known, but he was confirmed as a casualty of the war. Pictures shared after his death show Oni in combat gear and holding a rifle. The Ukrainian military confirmed his death through the social media accounts of the 68th Brigade of Ukrainian Land Forces.
After his death, Oni’s father shared photos and memories of his son on social media. He shared his immediate reaction in his first post, where he expressed pride for his son while also mourning his loss.
“Going through Ostap’s stuff. Many different sensations. It hurts. I used to buy him a lot. Some of the things he asked me about. It’s all about memories. Heavy and unmountable right now. Pride,” he said, according to digital translation.
In addition, Oni’s father has shared a Telegram account that Oni wrote before he began military service. The message, written in Ukrainian, is now available here.
Oni was primarily known in CSGO as a streamer, but he also had a competitive career with some major tournament placings.
In 2021, Oni played for Libertatem, a fully-Ukrainian CSGO team that competed in online and LAN tournaments in Eastern Europe. His last tournament before starting military service was ZUEL Championship 2021, where Libertatem earned $350 for a second-place finish. That event took place in Cherkasy, Ukraine, making it one of the few offline events for the region that year.
