Counter-Strike: Global Offensive has some serious matchmaking issues.
Fans have been reporting brutally long queue times in competitive matchmaking, with some waiting over 20 minutes to get into a standard game. The issue appears to have affected players all over the world, suggesting it’s not specific to any one region. There have also been multiple reports of ranks being reset overnight.
Users suggest the problem is exclusive to competitive mode. Custom games, casual matchmaking, and third-party services such as FACEIT and ESEA have functioned normally.
The game’s subreddit has been flooded with discussion on the topic since the morning of July 31. As of this writing, complaints are still being made with moderators requesting people not create new posts. One CSGO subreddit moderator stated that “both queue times and ranks are broken, no there is no way to fix it for now.”
Other commenters are taking the issues in a more lighthearted way, with one user stating, “Last time this freeze happened everyone ended up with a knife drop (but only one choice out of 3) and a rank-up by three tiers.”
At this stage it is unclear if ranks have actually been reset, or if they are just being displayed improperly. A true rank reset would result in months of chaos in the competitive mode, with Global Elites, Master Guardians, and Silvers potentially being placed in the same games.
The issue did not impact all players and some suggested that it may already have been remedied.
This may distress hardcore CSGO fans, but odds are that the game will be fully operational before long. Those that are actually hoping for ranks to be reset will likely have to climb their way out of Silver the old fashioned way.
