CS2 experimented with a skin rent feature in the Kilowatt case, and it seems Valve liked it so much that it’s extending the feature to every case ever released.
For many Counter-Strike 2 fans, skins are more important than the title’s actual gameplay. After all, if a player is going to miss their shots, they may as well look good doing it. Valve knows this all too well, and the company’s latest innovation with renting skins was apparently a hit with the community. In an update on November 27, 2024, the company made it so that every case now has this feature.
Here are details on how to rent every skin in CS2 and whether or not it’s a good idea for the average player.
CS2 players can now rent every skin as Valve extends the Kilowatt-exclusive feature to every case in the game.
To rent skins in CS2, players must first own or purchase a case. This used to only be the Kilowatt, but it now works with every box stretching back to the original CSGO Weapon Case. Then, players must purchase a key for that crate. The interface has changed to give two options, one for opening a skin to keep and another for opening to rent. This will surely annoy mass unboxers, as it adds another step to the process.
Players who select rent will instantly open a version of every skin in the case, including coverts. However, they will only be able to use those skins for seven days. The skins come in a randomized total of floats and conditions, so it’s possible to open a super-low float StatTrakā¢ covert and then watch it flicker away seven days later. However, it also prevents opening a bunch of worthless blues.
Note that knives and gloves are not included in the rent feature. The only way to show off gold-rarity skins is to truly own them.
This feature previously existed only for the Kilowatt case, and fan reaction was divided. Some fans feared opening a super juicer only to watch it fizzle away a week later. Others appreciated the chance to play with expensive skins without spending a fortune.
The cost to rent is still largely dependent on the skin case CS2 players want to rent. Renting the original CSGO Weapon case will still cost over $100 while borrowing the Snakebite collection costs barely more than the key itself. In general, it would be wise to save expensive cases to either open for keeps or sell at a later date. As for more recent cases that
