Coldzera has lost 16-0 on Dust 2 four times, and there's more

Faze Clan’s embarrassing 16-0 loss to Astralis at the recent IEM Beijing tournament came with an interesting stat for one of the star members of the FaZe roster.

Over the course of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, there have been a limited number of professional matches that are so one-sided that the loser fails to secure a single round. Some lucky fans got to witness another 16-0 in Beijing as FaZe lost to Astralis on Dust 2 without winning a single round. To make matters worse for Faze,  Astralis also demolished them on the second map 16-2.

Coldzera’s 0-16 streak on Dust 2 continues

While the rarity of a 16-0 finish gives those matches plenty of coverage, an even more interesting story has emerged from the Astrals vs. FaZe matchup at IEM Beijng.

After the match finished, Reddit user /u/OWNElk2 noted that the Brazillian phenom Marcelo “coldzera” David has been on the receiving end of a 16-0 loss four times in his professional career. That’s not the weirdest part. Every time coldzera has lost 16-0, its been on Dust 2.

Given coldzera’s status as one of the best players in the world, it’s a surprising statistic. The matches include games from when Coldzera was a member of Luminosity Gaming, SK Gaming, MIBR and FaZe Clan.

WIN.gg confirmed the listed games found the statistic to be accurate. In a final twist that borderlines on a conspiracy, Coldzera has ended three out of those four losses with a final scoreline of just six kills to ten deaths.

Astralis Makes History with first 16-0 at a Major

While shutouts are nothing new in professional Counter-Strike, Astralis made history last year when they defeated Coldzera and MIBR 16-0 at the FACEIT London Major in September 2019. It was the first 16-0 win at a Valve major in history.

Astralis pulled it off again earlier this year against Cloud9 at the IEM Katowice Major.

Thanks to one intrepid Redditor, there have been at least 41 games in CSGO that have ended scoreless for a participating team from the beginning of CSGO and 2017. These losses can be devastating for the losing team. Doubly so for teams like Fnatic, who once held the record for most 16-0 wins of all time.

In early 2019, Fnatic dropped a map to underdog AGO Esports while losing 16-0. Freddy “Krimz” Johansson put it the best after the match in a tweet.

We trash, sry to all. Ggwp Ago,” Krimz said.

Coldzera’s Dust 2 streak has no excuse

The effect a 16-0 can have on a team playing a series can affect them for the rest of the maps. Doubts and frustration rise, leading to sloppy mistakes and poor play. FaZe lost their second map after the 16-0 to a somehow almost worse 16-2 loss.

Before moving to FaZE, coldzera could at least blame his team for not doing their part. His previous 16-0 losses came during his time with the current core of the MIBR roster.

While the rest of his team looked devastated, FaZe’s Olof “olofmeister” Kajbjer Gustafsson still had enough humor in him for a classic tweet.

“de_stroyed,” Olaf said.

Now on a FaZe Clan team that boasts a mix of young and veteran talent, Coldzera might want to brush up on his Dust 2 skills.
