A new Pokémon has been revealed.

Gimmighoul is a ghost-type Pokémon that will be coming to Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. It’s known as a “coin chest” Pokémon due to its appearance: it has one form that’s basically a treasure chest. Its other form allows the creature within to roam around.

In a reveal trailer shared on November 6, Gimmighoul can be seen hiding in plain sight as a treasure chest. The creature opens the chest in order to release gems and coins that appear to do various types of damage. It also has a shield move of sorts. No official moveset has been revealed by Pokémon but it’s said that Gimmighoul can use “ghost energy to control its target” while in chest form, forcing opponents to “collect coins.”

In its roaming form, Gimmighoul has a coin strapped to its back and appears to be insect-like in size. According to an official tweet from the Pokémon account, no trainer in Paldea has ever caught one due to its shyness. When Gimmighoul senses a person or Pokémon drawing near, it ambushes them. It then uses ghost energy to control its target, forcing them to collect coins.

Pokémon hints at new Pokémon before release of Scarlet and Violet

Gimmighoul appeared in Pokémon GO over the weekend. It would follow players around the map but trainers weren’t able to catch it. Before that, Pokémon also teased the new creature in a cryptic tweet. At the time, it seemed more like an item reveal than a Pokémon.

Gimmighoul is not the first Pokémon to be revealed for Scarlet and Violet. A ghost dog Pokémon called Greavard was showcased a few days ago. Before that, a long, white Diglett-like Pokémon was revealed, known as Wiglett.
