Cloud9 signs GamerLegion’s mezii to deal worth over $400,000
William “mezii” Merrimanis is the second British addition to Cloud9’s new “Colossus” Counter-Strike: Global Offensive roster.
The North American organization acquired the British rifler from Team GamerLegion for a transfer fee of $83,000. Cloud9’s general manager Henry “HenryG” Greer announced the news and details about Mezii’s contract in a tweet. He confirmed that the deal between Cloud9 and Mezii is a three-year contract worth a total of $426,000.
The young rifler is the second British player to join Cloud9. The young rifler will be joining in-game leader Alex “ALEX“ McMeekin and coach Aleksandar “Kassad” Trifunovic, who were also recently recruited into the team.
In the press release, HenryG heavily stresses upon the reconstruction of the UK CS scene.
The young British player announced the news of his signing in a tweet.
“Today is a dream come true. I’m up on cloud nine, but this is only the beginning of my journey,” Mezii said.
The recruitment of two British players prompted discussion that a complete British overhaul might be underway at Cloud9. HenryG put all the speculations to rest by declaring that this is the final UK-based player to be recruited into the lineup.
“British Counter-Strike has always been a part of my soul, but with good reason has become now a long since passed memory. So it’s with pride in my heart I can announce my support for the scene that helped raise me into the man I am today by introducing the next great British name to fly our flag,” HenryG said.
The news of Mezii’s arrival took fans by surprise as the player is relatively new to the tier-one scene and hasn’t previously played under any notable banner. Mezii joined Team GamerLegion in May as a rifler and has managed to maintain a solid rating of 1.15.
Though he has spent the last few months with Team GamerLegion, his greatest achievements to date have likely come with British squad Vexed Gaming which competed in various regional leagues.
Cloud9 should make for a significant jump up in competition for the newcomer. Three more members of the roster are yet to be revealed.
