Cloud9 secure second place ahead of LCS spring playoffs
Cloud9 secured two wins in week nine and claimed second place in the 2019 LCS Spring Split regular season.
In a time when analysts discuss whether Team Liquid or TSM are the strongest teams in North America, Cloud9 continues to hold its own at the top.
The World Championship semifinalist started the week by taking down FlyQuest, and the match was all about Zachary “Sneaky” Scuderi on Jinx.
The rest of the squad drafted strong initiation with Eric “Licorice” Ritchie on Ornn and Dennis “Svenskeren” Johnsen on Jarvan IV, along with protection with Yasin “Nisqy” Dinçer on Morgana and support Tristan “Zeyzal” Stidam on Tahm Kench.
The team understood the sole win condition and played deftly around it. FlyQuest tried to find space for a comeback after getting behind early, but the snowballing from Cloud9 was unstoppable.
Every time FlyQuest went for a play, Cloud9 was ready to react. Despite having the tools to reach Cloud9’s backline, C9 team showed how in sync they are by protecting Sneaky at all times.
With their position and first round playoff bye locked up, Cloud9 decided to sub out the entire team and give the academy roster a chance to shine on the LCS stage.
The second team did not disappoint after a convincing victory over Clutch Gaming. This performance goes to show the strength of Cloud9 and their ability to win in the LCS with both of the organization’s two rosters.
By the end of week nine, Cloud9 sat comfortably in second place and now await their opponent in the LCS spring playoff semifinals. Cloud9 Academy is currently in the academy playoffs after finishing the season in first place, and is set to face Team Liquid Academy in the semifinals.
FlyQuest fell from fourth place to fifth after two losses to Golden Guardians, the team’s opponent in the quarterfinals.
