Cloud9 adds ex-TSM carry Zven, Dignitas' Vulcan as new bot lane duo

According to ESPN’s Jacob Wolf, Jesper “Zven” Svenningsen and Philippe “Vulcan” Laflamme are the new bottom lane duo for Cloud9.

Cloud9 is reportedly about to close a deal with the former Team SoloMid AD Carry. The Danish player revealed on November 12 that he had decided against renewing his contract with TSM and that he would enter free agency. The news didn’t surprise LCS fans considering the poor results Zven has had during his time with TSM.

Vulcan joins from a Dignitas roster that recently competed at the 2019 League of Legends World Championship as Clutch Gaming. Despite the poor result at the event, Vulcan was the top performer for the team. According to reports, Cloud9 paid a $1.5 million buyout for the Canadian support.

Vulcan’s move comes at a time when Dignitas is overhauling its roster. Earlier this month, the team released mid laner Tanner “Damonte” Damonte and signed Heo “Huni” Seung-hoon to a $2.3 million guaranteed contract.

This series of decisions blew the roster wide open for 2020.

More moves may be coming for Cloud9

The Vulcan deal and Zven’s signing are surprising for multiple reasons.

Cloud9 is not known for buying expensive players, but instead for developing its talent in-house and flipping it for a profit. The best example is support Tristan “Zeyzal” Stidam who is reportedly being transferred to Evil Geniuses.

Zven joining the team means that Zachary “Sneaky” Scuderi is likely done with Cloud9.

Sneaky has been a part of the organization since 2013 and is the most recognizable player on the team. Sneaky might stay with Cloud9 as a content creator, given the player’s wildly popular work as both a streamer and cosplayer. Regardless, it seems like Sneaky is set to leave on a sour note, as Cloud9 struggled at Worlds 2019 and failed to clear the group stage.

With the addition of Zven and Vulcan, Cloud9’s roster is currently set to be rounded out by Eric “Licorice” Ritchie in the top lane, Yasin “Nisqy” Dinçer mid, and Robert “Blaber” Huang as the starting jungler.
