Cache map update nearing completion according to creator FMPONE

The reboot of popular Counter-Strike: Global Offensive map Cache is nearing completion.

Map designer FMPONE released an update on his progress in redesigning the stage. Judging from his post, there are just a few areas left that need to be overhauled before it can be rolled out in full.

According to FMPONE’s post, the only areas left to tweak are the T-side pathways towards the bombsites including A main, squeaky door, B main, sun room, and checkers. This marks some serious progress from FMPONE’s last update in April, where he still needed to overhaul the entire T half of the map. In the month since, he has finished the area around T spawn, the areas surrounding warehouse, and the connector between warehouse and B main.

This kind of progress should delight fans that miss the map and excite the pro players that have been loudly grumbling about how much they hate Cache’s replacement, Vertigo.

So what can fans expect from the new Cache? That’s unknown at this time. FMPONE has been largely keeping the changes a secret from fans, with only a handful of screenshots appearing. The one real taste the public has gotten of the map is a video that shows a heavily revised version of the A bombsite. These changes include a widened field of view from the truck position and the addition of a series of lamp posts that can be jumped on to provide a high angle on pushes towards the site. These changes should offer some extra defensive options for the CT side on what has been arguably the most T-sided map in professional play.

When looking at that extensive makeover, it’s hard not to get excited about the new Cache. The only problem is that there is no timetable for its launch.

The map has been in development for the better part of two years at this point, and there is still no estimated release date. The remaining areas are heavily trafficked and need to be perfect before being released. Even if the map at near completion in terms of its layout, it is unknown if it is done aesthetically as the small amount of media that has been released on the new Cache has shown a completely unpolished version of the map. And even once it is completed, it is further unknown how quickly Valve will implement it into the game.

Regardless, this is a great sign for CS:GO fans looking to go back to their favorite abandoned Soviet compound.
