Broky joins FaZe for ESL New York after GuardiaN returns to Na'Vi
FaZe Clan continues to rebuild following its disappointing showing at the StarLadder Berlin Major.
According to a report by Polish esports outlet Cyber Sport, the organization is adding Helvijs “broky” Saukants to the lineup as a stand-in for ESL One New York. Per various reports, he is likely to serve as the team’s in-game leader following the departure of Filip “NEO” Kubski from the team.
This also follows the official departure of Ladislav “GuardiaN” Kovács for Natus Vincere. The Slovakian player was
long rumored
to be leaving, but the news was finally confirmed
by Na’Vi.
Are Aleksib and coldzera still joining FaZe Clan?
The news of Broky stepping in with the team comes as a bit of a surprise.
While many were expecting FaZe to undergo an overhaul regardless of its performance at the Berlin Major, the team has been heavily linked to both Aleksi “Aleksib” Virolainen and Marcelo “coldzera” David. The former ENCE captain and ex-MiBR star would plug the current holes in the FaZe lineup and make for a potential superteam.
The trouble is that while both players would probably like to join one of esports’ most prominent brands, neither are actually free agents. Both remain on the benches of their former organizations which puts significant financial hurdles
in place for teams that wish to bring them aboard.
Broky lacks the star power of Aleksib or Coldzera, but he is certainly a worthy addition to the team. Despite being relatively young in his career, the Latvian player showed serious skills during his tenure with Epsilon Esports. Currently listed as a free agent, there is a strong chance he winds up with a prominent team regardless of how long he stays with FaZe.
Whether he becomes a long-term stand-in like NEO with the team is uncertain.
Regardless of FaZe’s plans with broky, the team still needs to fill the hole left by GuardiaN. They will need to do so in a hurry, as ESL One New York kicks off on September 26.
