Blizzard teases new Overwatch map in Havana with latest lore update
Blizzard teases new Overwatch map in Havana with latest lore update
Blizzard has dropped a surprise piece of lore via the
Overwatch website, detailing a location that could tease a new map.
The blog piece is a fictional newspaper detailing the suspicious rise of a company located in Havana.
The depicted story shares information about a family run business, a rum distillery that creates a well known Cuban drink called “Don Rumbotico”. According to the fictional article, the business was operated by the same family for almost 200 years before the factory burned down under suspicious circumstances and the business was sold.
Within the story, the new company that purchases the factory then goes on to make the drink famous around the world. The company is not named, but fans of the Overwatch franchise can likely assume that the shady deal was completed by the villainous group known as Talon.
Further supporting this theory is the fact that the article also references a second location within Havana that the same mysterious company also bought. The Havana Seaport, once open to local businesses, has since become private property with an unprecedented amount of traffic and with soldiers guarding the perimeter.
Having two such distinct locations, with a fully rendered image that looks like a typical spawn room, could strongly suggest a new map in Havana that could be either an escort or two-point capture map. Given that recent map Paris is a two-point capture map, this could very well be a tease for a new escort map.
Fans have suspected that Havana would be the next map location for some time, as the airport spawn room on the Numbani was updated to show Havana as a possible location to visit. The other posters in the same style have only ever referenced in-game maps, leading many to see this change as a tease.
It is also the right time of year for a new Archives event, an event that is typically the most lore heavy out of all of the seasonal events. Last year, the event began on April 10 and introduced the Rialto map. The same could prove true for Havana this year.
