Pokemon Scarlet and Violet is one of the biggest releases of 2022 with millions of copies sold worldwide. While they’re both the same core game, each version has traits that set them apart, leaving players wondering, is Scarlet or Violet better?

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet is the first installment in the ninth generation. This time, the Pokemon Company is changing things up by making the game an open world and not having a linear storyline.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet use different references. Pokemon Scarlet is all about the past, which is reflected in the gear worn by Professor Sada and other elements of the game, like the more prehistoric design of the exclusive Pokemon. Koraidon, the legendary in Scarlet, is a feathered dragon. Its design is similar to how pre-Hispanic cultures portrayed mythological dragons.

Pokemon Violet looks into the future. Professor Turo wears a futuristic-looking suit and all the Exclusive Paradox Forms are made of iron, turning these Pokemon into robots. This version is inspired by sci-fi and futuristic aesthetics. Miraidon looks more like some sort of machine than a creature.

Is Scarlet or Violet better?

There are no apparent advantages in one version of the game or the other. Progression, opponents, missions, it’s all the same. It all comes down to the preference of each player.

If Pokemon Scarlet has an advantage is a broader variety of types on the list of exclusive Pokemon. Even that is not that big of an advantage considering that players can join friends who own Pokemon Scarlet and catch the exclusive Pokemon.

The futuristic designs in Pokemon Violet are more interesting and perhaps a look into what fans can expect from the franchise in the future.

To answer the question, both versions of the game are equally good. It is probably the first time that a Pokemon game in the main line does not have one version that is significantly more popular.
