There’s a new Aurelion Sol rework easter egg that fans have spotted, but it only happens 1% of the time.

The upcoming Aurelion Sol rework is set to revolutionize the champion’s abilities and play style without touching his iconic appearance, story, and voiceover. This has given him an entirely new set of tools and capabilities to approach the game with. Along with these, Riot Games has added a rare interaction on one of his skins that leads to a uniquely shocking animation when Aurelion Sol casts his ultimate. This Aurelion Sol rework easter egg happens very rarely, and only on one skin, so here’s what you need to know.

Aurelion Sol rework easter egg throws Lee Sin

There’s a new easter egg being added to Aurelion Sol’s ultimate with the new abilities he’s being granted. Aurelion Sol’s new ultimate is Starfall, an area of effect spell in which he throws down a star that damages and stuns enemies. The star then sends a large shockwave out into the map around it that slows enemies and damages them slightly. This ability can be empowered by collecting Star Dust to make it even larger. And, when using the Storm Dragon Aurelion Sol skin, there’s a 1% chance that his ultimate will toss a Storm Dragon Lee Sin from the heavens into his foes instead.

This interaction is quite rare, so not every single Storm Dragon Aurelion Sol ultimate is going to send the electrically-enhanced blind monk careening into the earth. This easter egg was confirmed to be intentional by one of Riot’s Senior VFX Artists, Riot Sirhaian, who responded on Twitter to the initial posting of it with glee. The interaction only has a 1% chance of happening, but it’s certain to pop up. There are no gameplay changes to the ability when Lee Sin shows up, it’s purely a visual gag.

Why does the ultimate summon Lee Sin?

Both Storm Dragon Aurelion Sol and Storm Dragon Lee Sin are part of the Four Beasts/Dragonmancers skin line. Like many skin lines in League of Legends, this skin line has its own world and lore separate from the usual tales of Runeterra. In this world, powerful elemental dragons reside in places of natural beauty and power. Storm Dragon Aurelion Sol rules over an enormous mountain, much like he is tethered to Mount Targon in the normal world of League of Legends. Lee Sin acts as his champion, having been granted great power by ascending the dragon’s mountain.

The official description for Storm Dragon Lee Sin describes him as “A warrior ascetic consumed with an electric passion for justice, Lee Sin climbed the mountain of the storm dragon Ao Shin, hoping to receive his blessing. Having returned from the summit as a legendary Dragonmancer, Lee Sin now doles out thunderous punishment to villains everywhere—ever under the watchful eye of his draconic patron.”

So Aurelion Sol summoning the blind monk is actually a reference to the intertwined lore of their skins, with the great patron sending his skilled warrior to strike his enemies.
